How to assist victims of hurricanes Harvey and Irma

For those who would like to contribute to assist victims of the recent hurricane disasters, below is a list of national and international organizations directing resources and services to aid victims: 

American Red Cross
You may designate your give to help victims of either Harvey or Irma at the Red Cross website. You can donate online or text "IRMA" to 90999 to chip in $10. If you want to volunteer, read this.

Save the Children
The organization is preparing to respond to the needs of vulnerable children and families affected by the storms. You can donate to its relief fund here.

Salvation Army
The Salvation Army has activated all of its U.S. and Canadian emergency disaster response assets, in an unprecedented response to Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. These units are able to provide food, shelter and emotional and spiritual care to those impacted by this ongoing devastating weather event.

UNICEF
UNICEF is on the ground with pre-positioned staff and supplies - equipment for water treatment and hygiene, provisional shelters and education kits, and more. Donate at http://www.unicefusa.org

United Way
United Way has funds for relief for victimes of both hurricane disasters. Give at www.UnitedWay.org/Recovery

Volunteer Florida
The agency is looking for volunteers to work in the state's shelters and other disaster relief organizations. You can register and find out more here. Gov. Rick Scott also noted that people can text "DISASTER" to 20222.

National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster
This association of organizations is active in Florida, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and is looking for volunteers in those regions. You can register here.
