Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission with full standing, applicants must have:

  • A bachelor's degree or the equivalent from a regionally accredited institution of higher education in the United States, or an foreign institution of acceptable standing
  • Adequate undergraduate preparation in the proposed major field or equivalent evidence of an appropriate background for undertaking as an advanced degree program
  • Acumulative GPA of 2.65 or better in all post-secondary coursework or in the last 60 units of baccalaureate and/or post-baccalaureate work

Some programs may have higher GPA requirements; review specific program information in the catalog for additional GPA requirements.

Standardized Test Scores

The GRE requirement varies by program and if required, an application is not complete without the receipt of official results sent directly from the testing service. Please consult the individual program admission criteria.

Official results from the general Graduate Record Examination (GRE) must be sent directly from the Educational Testing Service (ETS). See the ETS Homepage for further information on this exam.

MBA Program 
The Graduate Management Examination Test (GMAT) is required for admission instead of the GRE. For GMAT information, call the Eberhardt School of Business at 209.946.2629, or contact the Educational Testing Service at P.O. Box 6103, Princeton, NJ 08541-6103, or mba.com.

International Students

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required of all non-US citizens from countries having a language other than English as a primary language. See the ETS Homepage for additional information.

Official Transcripts

To complete the application portfolio, official transcripts for all work taken after high school are required, no matter how few credits were earned from the institution. Official transcripts must be submitted to Liaison, further instructions can be found using the links provided in the above table. However, international official transcripts must be sent directly to the Office of Graduate Admission.

Letters of Recommendation

Two or three recommendation letters are required for each applicant, depending on the program. Please check with the program to learn about program-specific recommender requirements. A valid email address for each recommender is required.  

Letter of recommendation requests can be sent electronically when completing your online application and selecting the Online Recommendation Form. Your recommenders will receive a link to our online recommendation form via email once you have submitted your application. For further instruction please visit the site here.
